Privacy Policy for Ask AI

Last updated: September 2026

Ask AI is a Chrome extension that lets you right click on text you've selected on a webpage and send it directly to ChatGPT.

What data we access

When you select text on a page and choose "Ask AI" from the right click menu, the extension reads that selected text so it can pass it along to ChatGPT. We do not access any other content on the page, and we do not read anything unless you actively select text and choose the menu option yourself.

How we store it

The selected text is temporarily saved using Chrome's local storage for a few seconds while a new ChatGPT tab opens. As soon as the text is inserted into that tab, it's removed from storage. Nothing is kept after that.

What we don't do

We do not collect, sell, transfer, or share your data with any third party. We don't track your browsing history, your location, your keystrokes, or anything else on the pages you visit. The extension has no analytics and doesn't send data to any server we control.

Where your text goes

The only place your selected text is sent is to ChatGPT (chatgpt.com), which is operated by OpenAI, since that's the whole point of the extension. Once it reaches that tab, however OpenAI handles it is covered under OpenAI's own privacy policy, not this one.

Permissions we use

contextMenus - to add the "Ask AI" option to your right click menu.
storage - to briefly hold your selected text before it's passed to the new tab.
Host access to chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com - to type your text into the chat box and submit it automatically.

Changes to this policy

If anything about how the extension works changes, this page will be updated to reflect that.
